Embodying little engine energy
The new financial year has arrived and with it comes the sixth month anniversary of ABC PR.
So, what have I learnt from the past six months on the road?
Hard work, belief
Hard work is easy, belief takes work. I have found when the belief is lacking, focus on the work. Break it down and conquer it.
As Andrew ‘Twiggy’ Forrest said in an ABC interview with Andy Park after returning as executive chairman to lead the company's iron ore business into the green energy transition, ‘sometimes you need to bite off more than you can chew and chew like buggery.’
While this is totally unsustainable in the long run, I personally found this helpful when I started at the beginning of the year. As a new business owner there is so much to learn outside of your usual remit. When things became overwhelming it was helpful to get stuck into what I knew best to remind myself of my capability. Leading me to the realisation you can work yourself into the belief.
Hope is the greatest motivator of all
After a rough start to the year, the increased cost of living, inflation and a likely recession we are all combatting some serious scar tissue. However, things are returning to normal. The indicator for this is that my Instagram feed has reverted to its usual Euro spam over Winter (all is right with the world).
The records you keep
As a survivor of my first EOFY, let me start with the importance of spreadsheets. I cannot stress the importance of keeping records as you proceed through the year. Luckily, I had only six months to consolidate and have since changed a few operational elements to hopefully improve this process for next year.
The company you keep
I have been extremely lucky to find myself as part of a wonderful community of fellow PR practitioners from all corners of the country. I am not quite sure how I bumbled my way into their lovely presence but I am eternally grateful.
Being your own boss is empowering and fun but having a collective brains trust you can tap into is imperative for any solopreneurs. Especially when starting out as the questions are relentless.
The past six months have been a journey to summit. As I start chugging into the new year, I’ve noticed a shift from ‘I think I can’ to ‘I know I can’ which is truly transformative.
